Mid-market rate vs exchange rate: what CryptonicTools shows

Updated 2026-09-13

Learn the difference between a CoinGecko mid-market index and the bid/ask you get on an exchange or P2P desk before you convert crypto.

What a mid-market rate is

A mid-market (or “spot index”) rate sits between typical buy and sell quotes across major venues. CryptonicTools pulls CoinGecko simple/price references and shows them as a live converter number — useful for planning, not for guaranteeing a fill.

When you open a pair page such as BTC to USD, the headline rate is that index, refreshed on roughly a 60-second cadence when data is available.

What an exchange or P2P quote includes

An executable quote includes the venue’s order book, maker/taker fees, withdrawal costs, and sometimes a local premium or discount. Your wallet or exchange ticket will almost never match the mid-market index exactly.

P2P and cash desks can diverge further because of banking rails, settlement risk, and demand imbalances — especially for emerging-market fiats.

How to use both without getting confused

Use the converter to size an amount and sanity-check “about how much.” Then confirm the live bid/ask and fees on the platform you will actually use. For fee-aware profit math after a trade idea, open the profit calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Is the CryptonicTools rate what I will receive on Binance or Coinbase?+

No. You will receive the venue’s executable price minus fees. Treat our number as a mid-market reference for planning.

Why does P2P INR or PKR look different?+

Local cash and P2P markets often trade at a premium or discount to global indexes because of banking access and demand. Always check the advert you will use.
