How to use Hex / Bytes Converter
Paste a hex string. Read byte length and a UTF-8 preview when decodable. Clear sensitive blobs when done.
Example: decoding 0x68656c6c6f
You have a hex string from calldata or a hash and want to know its size and text.
- Remove the 0x prefix: 68656c6c6f (10 hex characters)
- Bytes = ceil(10 ÷ 2) = 5 bytes
- Read each pair as a byte: 68 65 6c 6c 6f = “hello” in UTF-8
The string is 5 bytes and decodes to “hello”. Hex strings must have an even number of characters to be valid bytes.
Formula & methodology
bytes = ceil(hexChars / 2) after optional 0x prefix strip.
Inspect hex payloads and byte lengths
Explorers and ABIs speak hex. Length checks catch copy/paste errors before you submit calldata elsewhere or compare against an expected ABI encoding size.
Runs in-browser. Never paste private keys, seed phrases, or signing material into any web page — including this one. Clear the field when finished.
Use the unit converter for gwei/wei amounts instead of treating numeric quantities as opaque hex blobs. Odd lengths usually mean a truncated paste, a missing nibble, or an accidental newline in the hex string.
When hex inspection is enough
Byte length and a UTF-8 peek help debug truncated copy/pastes. They do not verify signatures, Merkle proofs, or contract correctness.
For address format issues, prefer the wallet validator. For mnemonic checks, prefer BIP39 validation offline when funds are involved.
