Collateral posted to open and maintain a leveraged trade. Isolated margin risks only that allocation; cross margin shares balances across positions.

Maintenance margin is the minimum equity required to avoid liquidation. Initial margin is what you post to open.

Funding payments on perpetual futures can slowly change effective equity even if spot price is flat.
