How to use Funding Rate PnL
Enter position notional, funding rate, and hold periods. Read estimated funding paid or received over that window.
Example: funding cost on a $10,000 long for a week
You hold a $10,000 long on a perpetual with a +0.01% funding rate paid every 8 hours, for 21 periods (7 days).
- Funding per period = $10,000 × 0.01% = $1
- Total = $1 × 21 = $21
With positive funding, longs pay shorts, so this long pays $21 over the week and a short on the other side would receive it. Rates change every period.
Formula & methodology
funding ≈ notional × rate × periods (sign depends on long/short and rate polarity). Venue conventions differ.
Estimate perpetual funding cost or income
Funding can dominate short-term P&L when leverage is high and you hold through many intervals. Separate it from price P&L.
Paste rates from your exchange — we do not stream live funding boards.
Combine with liquidation and position size so funding and forced-exit risk are both visible.
