How to use Market Cap & FDV Calculator

Enter price and circulating supply for market cap; add fully diluted / max supply for FDV. Compare the gap when unlocks remain.

Example: Bitcoin market cap and FDV

Bitcoin trades at $65,000 with 19,700,000 coins in circulation and a 21,000,000 maximum supply.

  1. Market cap = $65,000 × 19,700,000 = $1,280,500,000,000
  2. Fully diluted valuation = $65,000 × 21,000,000 = $1,365,000,000,000
  3. Circulating share = 19,700,000 ÷ 21,000,000 = 93.81%

Market cap counts only coins that exist today ($1,280,500,000,000). FDV assumes the full supply is out ($1,365,000,000,000). The bigger the gap, the more future supply can dilute holders.

Formula & methodology

marketCap = price × circulating. FDV = price × fullyDilutedSupply (when provided).

Read market cap and FDV without the hype

Price alone hides float. Market cap and FDV make supply assumptions explicit so unlock overhang is visible next to the chart.

FDV is not destiny — it assumes today’s price on future supply. Use dilution and vesting tools when cliffs approach.

Remember liquidity: large caps can still slip on thin pairs.

Frequently asked questions

How is market cap calculated?+

Circulating market cap ≈ price × circulating supply. FDV ≈ price × fully diluted / max supply when you provide that supply figure.

Why can FDV look much higher than market cap?+

Large unlocks or unissued supply inflate FDV. That overhang matters for dilution narratives — pair with the dilution impact tool.

Is market cap the same as liquidity?+

No. A large cap can still be expensive to trade on a thin pair. Check slippage before rotating size.
